Thermal Stress Relieving is a vital process for ensuring that components are stress free before being put into service.

A component acquires stresses from the work that is done to it, most commonly welding stress, machining stress and bending stress. If these stresses are not released then the component can crack or move during its working life.

Stress Relieving is a non-metallurgical process that is a process carried out without any metallurgical change in structure occurring in the base material. The Stress Relieving parameters of a component will therefore be governed by the material from which it is made.

J. J. Castings has the capacity to carry out furnace work on components up to 9M long and weighing 30 tons. All the furnaces use electricity as a heat source and are therefore exceedingly accurate and easily controlled. The lack of oxygen in the furnaces also ensures that components acquire the minimal surface scale during treatment. The facilities are ideal for the treatment of pressure vessels, pipe work, fabrications and mechanical components.

The Company has numerous customer approvals for its furnace work as well as ISO9001 - 2000 approval. All components are Heat Treated within the approved ISO9001 - 2000 quality control system ensuring the heat cycle graphs and document traceability.
